I met the love of my life through on-line personal ads, but the romance wasn’t on-line, it was in person. He only lived 5 miles from me. I’ve arranged face to face meetings (hey, let’s everybody from the room meet at H_____ Beach next Sunday!) with chat room people, and made friends with some, but no romance.

I’d say it’s possible to MEET someone on-line with whom you may later develop a romance, but I don’t think I could really feel serious about someone I rarely or never saw in person. You can’t hold hands via IM.

I have met alot of great men. But most married. when I found out I cooled it. I called it off. But I have friends that have met their husbands and boy friends on line. It can happen to you as well. Well, Well, I must admit, that I had to meet a few toads before I actually encounter a real prince, but..so far it has been successful. 6 months and counting. Met him on-line, on a dating site, but the thing is we were friends to start with and now he is my best friend and my lover. Good luck with your romance, and remember that heart break and romance can go hand and hand, you can find either one on-line or across the street. Its the person, not where you find or meet them at.

In answer to your question, the term “romance” can be defined as above and nowhere does it say that a romance has to be physical – sometimes when you take the physical away you get a meeting of minds and a different kind of attraction – take online dating, many people meet others online who then go on to become their life parters.

I would argue that a romance can develop online, but that it is that physical spark that really makes a romance turn into a love affair
